Realize Medical Announces Appointment of Advisor, Dr. Animesh (Aashoo) Tandon, to expand cardiac tools in Elucis

OTTAWA, Ontario, April 8, 2021 – Realize Medical, creators of Elucis, the first platform for creating and interacting with 3D medical models entirely in virtual reality, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Animesh (Aashoo) Tandon to its Board of Advisors.

Animesh (Aashoo) Tandon, M.D., M.S., is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, with joint appointments in Radiology and Biomedical Engineering, at UT Southwestern in Dallas. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a BA in 2003. During his medical training at the University of Michigan Medical School, he performed a research fellowship at the NINDS/NIH through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute/NIH Research Scholars (Cloister) Program. Dr. Tandon completed his pediatric residency and categorical pediatric cardiology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. During fellowship, he earned a Masters in Clinical and Translational Research from the University of Cincinnati. He then completed an advanced imaging fellowship at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta/Emory University.

Dr. Tandon’s current clinical and research interests are focused on the use of cardiac MRI (CMR) to aid in non-invasive histology and the understanding of pathophysiology; the development and use of wearable and other monitoring devices; the collection and analysis of big data through machine learning and the development of predictive analytics; 3D printing, 3D visualization, virtual reality, and augmented reality in congenital heart disease; and fellow education.

"Elucis addresses the key roadblock in easy use of 3D datasets for congenital heart disease: image segmentation. By using intuitive, 3D tools to generate 3D anatomy, it will be far simpler and easier to plan personalized approaches for each patient. Elucis also opens the door to further data analysis in 3D! I am excited to contribute to Realize Medical and Elucis and help make it the standard of care in pediatric cardiology.”

Pediatric Cardiologist
In addition to his clinical work and research, Dr. Tandon currently serves on the AAP’s Section of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Early Career Working Group; the American College of Cardiology Early Career Section Leadership Council; and the American Heart Association Center for Health Technology & Innovation (CHTI) Health Technology Advisory Group (HTAG). In 2019 and 2020, Dr. Tandon was named a Texas Monthly Super Doctor Rising Star.
Realize Medical CEO, Justin Sutherland: “Many of the pediatric cardiologists we work with are moving away from printing 3D models for pre-procedure planning and are leveraging advanced visualization tools instead. Moving this work into an immersive virtual reality platform like Elucis is an obvious next step for procedure planning in pediatric cardiology. That said, we are thrilled to welcome Dr. Tandon to our board of advisors. His clinical expertise in pediatric cardiology and innovative work with virtual reality technology will help propel our cardiac modeling tools through the next stages of development.”
